Reaction Paper #1
A few classes ago, my professor had planned a panel of photographers to speak to us upon their experience after and during their time at Suffolk County Community College. Each person was different whether from why they took the photography courses, and what they're doing now. I was very intrigued because every person was very different, which I was slightly surprised, but it was very comforting knowing that every person has a different path and you don't have to follow a certain way to achieve your goal. I was also amused on how a person can be taking the courses just for fun, and end upon with a job they never thought about, and how you can just end up there with just luck, all because you gave what you wanted to do a chance. The one thing they all had in common was the emphasis on having to social network. Some were also socially networking with each other after the panel, which is very eye opening in a way, because I'm still not as use to the concept as a beginner. The photographers were also giving us other tips, like when trying to submit your work to a gallery/art show, you should look up the place and make sure your work correlates with the event and if you agree with the terms. It also gave me a lot to think about what 4-year college I would like to go to, because I never really thought about the other colleges they referenced and their stance on how you don't need a "paper" to determine how good you can be, even though it can assuring to some. I really enjoyed the panel, I found it very informative and I can't wait to have more speakers to visit and speak to my class in the future.
