Reaction Paper #2

Last week, on the 8thof December, I went to the MoMa, known as the Museum of Modern Art. I decided to go because, yes I’ve gone before and enjoyed the art but, now having the knowledge that I do now, understanding some of the artists more, and its history, wanted to revise them, also  some of them I haven’t gotten a chance to see them too. I wanted to have a better look and have a chance to say yes I’ve seen them in person, and acknowledge them. Some of the artists’ works I saw was Eugene Atget, Anna Atkins, Richard Avedon, and Imogen Cunningham. It was very exciting to see these few artist works. The one I was mainly excited over for was Richard Avedon. I love his photographs whether its fashion or just portraits of celebrities. I enjoy the contrast he takes where it’s the opposite of what the viewer would expect. One artists' work I wanted to see was Cindy Sherman, but I didn’t have too much time and these were the few I was able to fall upon when there. I really love her concept of how she’s “performing” for the camera. She also explains it as dress up and how she wishes that Halloween could be every day, which I find hilarious. I think one of the main reasons why I love her work so much is because I know I wouldn’t be able to shoot self-portraits the way she does, or be that comfortable the same way with the camera like her. But maybe that’s now and in the future I could be more comfortable. Either way all these photographers, even some that I didn’t have a chance to see, will always inspire me in small ways, especially Cindy Sherman. And of course i'll going back in attempts to more artists and works.
